NW Fly Tyer and Fly Fishing Expo

Stan Walters Memorial Tyer of the Year

The Oregon Council Federation of Fly Fishers gives this annual award “In recognition of your skills, teaching and innovation in the art of fly tying”. Stan Walters (1926-2007) from Eugene, Oregon was one of the original members of the McKenzie Flyfishers. He was chairman of the committee that created the national Federation of Fly Fishers and chaired the organizing conclave in the summer of 1965. For more than three decades Stan quietly taught fly tying classes in Eugene, Oregon. Stan chaired committees for Northwest regional conclaves in Eugene in 1975, 1985 and the Silver Anniversary International Conclave in 1990. He also chaired several Fly Tyer Expos in Eugene in the 1990s. He received the prestigious Federation of Fly Fishers' Buz Buszek Memorial Fly Tying Award in 1992. Hundreds of fly fishers today are the beneficiary of Stan's pioneering work in fly tying and fishing.
