Tyer – Jim Fisher

2011 – Stan Walters Memorial Tyer of the Year

Jim has been fly tying and fly fishing for over 60 years. He started with a vise and book from Herter’s and feathers and hair from his folk’s farm in Northern Idaho (home waters were Coeur d Alene Lake and the St. Joe River). He is very interested in tying the classic salmon flies of Scotland and Ireland as well as old wet flies of early American history.   He has tied flies and fished for Trout, Steelhead, Salmon (both Pacific  and Atlantic), Bass, Crappie, and Northern Pike.  Jim has fished internationally in the trout streams of England; the Spey River, Scotland; Grand Cascapedia River, Quebec and lakes in Northern Saskatchewan. Jim is in the record book for Atlantic Salmon over 40 pound caught on Grand Cascapedia River in Quebec, Canada – 2006.

Jim is a life member of the Fly Fishers International and the Fly Fishers International Tyers Group and is the recipient of several awards from the Oregon Council of FFI  including Federator of  the Year, and President’s Award. Lastly, he is a former chair of the NW Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo.
